Method: A fully integrated purchasing and payment interface.
The SFMOMA website was a large, intricate build. The website was the first expression of SFMOMA's new brand, and needed to sell tickets and memberships in advance of the opening of the new SFMOMA building in San Francisco.
We completely replaced TNEW, integrating GLAMkit with a Tessitura middleware built in .NET by Popbto market and sell tickets, memberships and donations. The user experience is seamlessly integrated into the responsive site, and Tessitura handles the back-end.
The result is that visitors can choose and buy tickets, memberships and make donations without leaving the SFMOMA site. They can also gift memberships, and log in as members to update their details, get discounts or renew their membership.
It works on desktop and mobile devices, and users no longer need to create an account to buy.
GLAMkit provides us with the foundational elements of a modern website such as user roles, content editing, and publishing. It also supports more museum-specific needs, such as backing for large, complex online collections or the myriad ways events appear, including recurrences and series.
With its robust infrastructure, GLAMkit allows us to integrate with SFMOMA’s existing systems, implement our Design Studio’s gorgeous new design, and provide a platform for the breadth and depth of content SFMOMA is known for.
This level of integration requires a good deal of careful design and testing. The website is now handling credit card details, so Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance and a security-driven approach to code is necessary.
Although SFMOMA was a complex job (SFMOMA explains how they chose GLAMkit here), it’s just the beginning of what we can do with GLAMkit – our next post in this series will talk about the future.
